tolica Salwadoru ma pół miliona mieszkańcówi leży w dużej górskiej kotlinie u stóp wygasłego wulkanu o wysokości 1960 m npm.
Miasto założono w XVI wieku, ale trzęsienia ziemi sprawiły, że zabytków zachowało
się tu niewiele.
The capital city of El Salwador has half a milion inhabitants
and lies in the large valley at the foot of sleeping volcano. City was established
in 16th century but due to earthquaques very few monuments survived.
San Jacinto jest kolejka linowa wwożąca turystów za 10 colonów na szczyt, z którego
roztacza się nie tylko piękny widok na miasto, ale także na wypełniające wulkaniczna
kalderę Jezioro Ilopango – największe w Salwadorze i wulkan San Vincente
In the San Jacinto Quarter tourists may ride a cable car to
the summit for 10 colones. The view includes the city, Lake Ilopango in the largest
volcanic caldera in Salvador and the peak of the volcano San Vincente in the distance.
nazwa miasta oznacza Świętego Zbawiciela. W eksponowanym miejscu – na rondzie przy Plaza
de las Americas stoi pomnik Salvador del Mundo – Zbawiciela Świata. W przeszłości
w tym kraju niepodzielnie dominował katolicyzm. Ponieważ jednak podczas wojny domowej
kościół sympatyzował z lewicową partyzantką i biednymi część
wiernych (ok. 20%) obecnie deklaruje się jako protestanci.
“San Salvador” means “Holy Saviour”. A
monument to Salvador del Mundo – (Saviour of the World) stands in the prominent place – on
the roundabout at Plaza de las Americas.

jest szczelnie budami handlarzy i trudno to miejsce nazwać reprezentacyjnym, tym
bardziej, że wokół bez przerwy suną sznury dymiących i hałasujących samochodów.
In the city center stands Catholic cathedral. Unfortunately
the square in front of the church is completely crammed with booths of vendors and
it is hard to call this place elegant, especially as lines of smoking, noisy cars are
moving non-stop around the square.
katedralnym znajdziecie także Palacio Nacional – gmach parlamentu, jedną z
najbardziej reprezentacyjnych budowli miasta . Ale przed parlamentem
przekupnie sprzedają na chodniku kapelusze i hamaki…
On the same square you will find also Palacio Nacional, the
parliament building – one of the most elegant buildings of the town. Street
vendors sell hats and hammocks in front of Palacio Nacional…
omijają dzieci śpiące na chodniku w podcieniach przy Plaza Libertad. Salwador
jest krajem biednym, krajem kontrastów. Pieniądze przysyłane przez Salwadorczyków
pracujących za granicą są główną pozycją w dochodach kraju…
Pedestrians walk around the sleeping children in the
arcades of Plaza Libertad. El Salvador is poor country, full of contrasts. Money sent from
emigrants working abroad is main source of country income…
centralnych ulicach miasta znajdziecie garkuchnie oferujące skromne posiłki i kawę,
serwowaną z baniek na mleko. Na metalowej płycie piecze się tu między innymi
salwadorską specjalność – placki pupusas.
Even on the central streets of the city you will find food stands
offering modest meals and coffee served from the milk cans. On the metal plate they fry
here among other famous Salvadorian delicacy – pupusas pancakes.
placki z kukurydzianej mąki zawierające rozmaite nadzienie: ser, świńskie skórki,
fasolę. W takim ulicznym stoisku nadziewa się je i uklepuje na oczach klienta… Za
dolara można dostać takie trzy papusy i jeszcze popić kawą…
Papusas are made of corn meal batter stuffed with cheese,
fried pork fat or refried beans. In such street stall they are stuff them on the
eyes of the client… You can get 3 papusas for 1 USD and coffee will be also included…
trudno przejechać przez centrum stolicy. Podstawowe środki komunikacji miejskiej to
autobusy (bardzo tanie: opłata wynosi 1,50 colona), minibusy po 2 colony i zdezelowane
żółte taksówki – około 25 colonów za kurs (koniecznie ustalcie opłatę z góry !!!)

Even in the morning it is
difficult to drive through the center of the capital. Basic means of transportation are:
city buses (very cheap: 1,50 colon per ride), minibuses (2 colones) and junk yellow taxis
charging about 25 colones per ride (negotiate the price before you enter !!!)
Salwadorze wcale nie widać turystów w stolicy kraju jest bazar, na którym można kupić
pamiątki – głównie wyroby artystycznego rękodzieła. Bazar mieści się w dużej hali
zbudowanej trzy kwadry za katedrą i nazywa się Mercado ex-Cuartel.
Although there are few tourist in El Salvador there is a
tourist market in the capital where you can buy souvenirs – mainly handicrafts. Market is
located in the large hall built three blocks behind the cathedral. They call it Mercado
ex-Cuartel.
kościół La Ceiba de Guadalupe – jeden z ładniejszych w stolicy. Trafiłem tam na
początku grudnia – w dniu obchodów święta Guadalupe, gdy miejscowa ludność, często
w ludowych strojach przynosi do kościoła kwiaty..
This is church La Ceiba de Guadalupe – one of the
nicest in the capital. I have been there at the beginning of December – when they
celebrated Guadalupe Day. At this time local people are coming to the church in national
costumes bringing flowers and offerings..
malownicze procesje. Ubrane w ludowe stroje dzieci niosą w nich do kościoła kwiaty,
figurki i święte obrazki. Taką procesję widziałem w Panchimalco…
In
the small towns in Guadalupe Day they conduct picturesque processions. Children in
national costumes carry to the church flowers, figurines and holy pictures. I saw such
procession in Panchimalco.
odległości zaledwie kilkunastu kilometrów od centrum San Salwador leży małe, stare
miasteczko Panchimalco, z ładnym kościołem o bogatej rzeźbiarskiej dekoracji ołtarzy.
Z lewej strony kościoła widać w dali szczerbę w górskiej grani – to Puerta del
Diablo – Diabelskie Wrota – w pogodny dzień znakomity punkt widokowy…
Only 15 km from the center of San Salwador lies small
old town of Panchimalco with nice church containing interesting wood-carved altars. Left
to the church you can see the gap in the mountain ridge – this is Puerta del Diablo –
Devils Gate. It is excellent viewpoint if the day is not cloudy…
Możecie wjechać samochodem przez Park Balboa aż do parkingu zlokalizowanego w siodle i wspiąć
się na
skałki po lewej lub prawej stronie. Widoki z Puerta del Diablo są ładne, ale nie jest
to miejsce dla samotnych turystów. W ogóle w Salwadorze, a szczególnie w stolicy
bezpieczniej poruszać się w grupie…. You can drive by car
through Balboa Park up to the car park located in the gap. Then it is possible to climb
the rocks on both sides. Views from Puerta del Diablo are nice but it is not a place for
lonely tourist. Generally in El Salvador, and especially in the capital it is safer to
walk around with a group…
